Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the adoption of the EU’s 19th package of sanctions against Russia demonstrates unity at a time when Russia is intensifying terror and attacks on civilians.
Zelensky announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“I thank the European Union and all member states for adopting the strong 19th sanctions package. This is a demonstration of European unity at a time when Russia is escalating the war and intensifying strikes on civilians. The restrictions target exactly those things that help Moscow continue this war: the oil and gas sector, the shadow fleet, and the defense-industrial complex. For the first time, sanctions have been applied to crypto platforms and cryptocurrency schemes that Russia exploits to circumvent restrictions,” Zelensky said.
He also emphasized the importance of applying sanctions against the aggressor country in a synchronized manner.
“It is crucial that the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States act in sync to ramp up pressure on Russia and bring the peace we all need closer. Sanctions pressure must be increased, and we will be discussing this today in Brussels with our partners,” Zelensky said.
As reported earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced today that the European Union has approved its 19th package of sanctions against Russia over its ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced sanctions against major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, urging Moscow to immediately agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
