U.S. ready to step up pressure on Russia, U.S. Treasury chief says

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko in Washington, assured that the United States is prepared to work with other G7 countries to intensify pressure on Russia.

This was stated in a press release from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, according to Ukrinform.

“Secretary Bessent also reiterated the United States’ commitment to working with G7 partners to significantly escalate pressure on Russia,” the statement said.

“He stressed the need for European allies to ratchet up their pressure campaign not only against Russia, but also against any country that finances the Russian war machine through purchases of Russian oil,” the Treasury Department added.

During the talks, Bessent reaffirmed the U.S. side’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and underscored the United States’ commitment to ensuring a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine.

“The Secretary thanked the Prime Minister for her continued support of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, and noted the importance of regular U.S.-Ukraine engagements as part of this vital partnership,” the statement noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, on October 13 a Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko traveled to the United States. The goals of the visit are to strengthen air defense and strike capabilities, tighten sanctions, and boost energy cooperation.
