NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that the United States has already delivered weapons to Ukraine worth “the first couple of billion” dollars, funded by allied contributions.
He told this to journalists at the U.S. Congress, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
According to Rutte, weapons for Ukraine worth “the first couple of billion” U.S. dollars, paid for by allies, have already been shipped from the United States, and he is ready to discuss further steps during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Of course, Europeans are stepping up when it comes to security assurances for Ukraine post a long-term ceasefire or peace deal,” Rutte said.
He also stressed that Europe hopes a ceasefire can be achieved soon.
“I will see the President later today. We will discuss further how we from NATO can be helpful in delivering his vision of getting a full-scale peace in Ukraine, which, of course, we all pray for after his enormous success in Gaza,” Rutte said.
Rutte is visiting Washington on Wednesday, with meetings scheduled at the U.S. Congress as well as with President Donald Trump at the White House.
