The development of a peace plan for Ukraine can begin when Russia is pressured to come to the peace talks.
According to a Ukrinform correspondent, President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a conversation with journalists on October 23 in Brussels, commenting on the question of whether Ukraine, together with its European partners, would present a peace plan. The conversation with journalists was broadcast by the Office of the President, and Ukrinform transmitted the event on its YouTube channel.
“The plan begins with a ceasefire. The plan begins even not with a ceasefire. The plan begins with the will to sit and speak, and not to stand and fight using all kinds of missiles against just civilians. Yesterday, they attacked a kindergarten. The second army of the world, as they say, is fighting against Ukrainian children. This is exactly, it doesn’t show that they want to stop this war. More pressure on Russia, and they will sit and speak. I think this is the plan,” the president stressed.
Zelensky noted that he was not aware of any European plan. He noted that Ukraine’s partners and friends in Europe want to be prepared for any scenario.
The president said that there is a proposal to prepare certain points, but first, according to him, a ceasefire must be achieved.
Also, Zelensky underlined that “We don’t want somebody to bring to the table a plan of somebody from Russia through one or another third country.”
As reported by Ukrinform, German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, after a telephone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders, said that Ukraine needs a peace plan now.
