On October 15, 2024, Oleh Synehubov, the regional governor, ordered the mandatory evacuation of Kupyansk itself and the town of Borova, citing constant Russian shelling and the inability to repair critical infrastructure for the winter.
Synehubov published a post with relevant order on his Telegram account, Ukrinform reports.
“At a meeting of the Regional Defense Council, a decision was made to forcibly evacuate families with children from 27 settlements in the territorial communities of Velykyi Burluk, 6 of Vilkhuvatka, and 7 of Shevchenkove,” the post reads.
In total, 601 children from 409 families need to be evacuated to safer locations.
“The decision was made in connection with the aggravation of the security situation in the Kupyansk direction,” the head of the Regional Military Administration wrote, adding that evacuation routes have been determined and temporary accommodations for evacuated people have been provided.
As reported as of October 8, 904 families with 1,163 minors refused to leave settlements in the Donetsk region that are subject to order of mandatory evacuation of families with children.
