Ukrainian defenders are demonstrating the high effectiveness of the Mistral air defense system on the front lines.
Even though these systems are designed to destroy aircraft (airplanes and helicopters), they have also proven themselves in shooting down Russian Shaheds.
“In particular, the fighters of the 39th separate coastal defense brigade showed excellent results, destroying three enemy kamikaze drones during one shift,” the defenders of the South reported and published a corresponding video.
About Mistral air defense system
The Mistral anti-aircraft missile system is a French portable short-range system developed by Matra BAe Dynamics (now MBDA). It is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles at low altitudes.
The Mistral missile is guided by infrared radiation, which allows it to hit targets on a “fire and forget” basis. Its range is up to 6 km, and its speed is over 2.5 Mach (one Mach is 1,235 km – ed.), making the system one of the most effective in its class.
The system can be used both in a portable version and on various platforms – armored vehicles, ships, or helicopters.
The complex is distinguished by its high reliability, ease of operation, and resistance to interference, thanks to which it is actively used in military conflicts and supplied to NATO countries, as well as Ukraine.
It was recently reported that Russia has intensified drone reconnaissance in the southern regions of Ukraine. Compared to August, the share of reconnaissance UAVs has increased by 15-20%.
Russia attacks Ukraine with drones
Russia uses strike drones not only on the front lines, but also launches them into peaceful cities and towns in Ukraine.
Overnight, Russia launches up to 200 drones at Ukraine from various directions, most of which are Shahed-type drones, followed by the Gerberas, while other types of UAVs are also recorded.
On the night of October 8, the Russian troops sent 183 attack drones to Ukraine, and the Air Force managed to shoot down 154 of them.
