The medical screening program for people aged 40+, which will start in Ukraine in 2026, provides for a range of medical services for the initial detection of diseases, as well as periodic monitoring of risk factors for people diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health Maria Karchevich in a comment to Ukrinform.
“A set of medical services is planned, aimed at the primary detection of risk factors and diseases in asymptomatic individuals, as well as periodic monitoring of complications and uncontrolled risk factors in people with established cardiovascular diseases and diabetes,” Karchevich said.
As the deputy minister noted, cardiovascular disease is currently one of the leading causes of death, and due to the war, strokes and heart attacks have become common even among younger people. According to her, 60% of premature deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease. Accordingly, the introduction of a health screening program aims to identify health risks in a timely manner and prevent complications.
“Screening will be free of charge for patients. It will include laboratory tests, physical examination, risk assessment, and preventive counseling. The service will work as follows: after their birthday, people will receive an invitation via ”Diia” to undergo a check-up, then, if they wish, they confirm their readiness, make an appointment at a medical facility that is convenient for them, undergo a comprehensive examination, and then receive a personalized “health passport” with recommendations for further steps, as well as pay for the service with a “Diia.Card,” Karchevich said.
She added that both public and private medical facilities will be included in the program. The condition for participation is to meet the requirements for the content of the service, relevant specialists, equipment, and service.
As reported by Ukrinform, a program of preventive medical examinations for people aged 40+ will start in Ukraine in 2026 to detect dangerous diseases at an early stage. Participants will be able to receive funds for examinations in “Diia.”
