A massive Russian attack on the Kyiv region on July 2 destroyed the central warehouse of Denka Logistics, including approximately 800,000 books belonging to the Ukrainian publishing house BookChef.
BookChef announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
“As a result of last night’s Russian attack, the central warehouse of our logistics partner, Denka Logistics, where our books were stored, was destroyed. Most of our inventory – around 800,000 books – has been lost. These are books created through the work of authors, translators, editors, illustrators, designers, printers, managers, and logistics specialists. They represent years of work by a great many people,” the publisher said.
BookChef stressed that the most important thing is that all employees survived. However, the company is temporarily suspending all promotional campaigns with partner stores until the number of reprinted titles stabilizes.
“We are temporarily unable to accept, process, and ship orders as usual. This may cause difficulties and delays even for newly printed books. We ask for your patience and understanding while we restore our logistics,” BookChef CEO Oleksandr Kirpichov said.
Despite the losses, the publisher stressed that it will continue operating.
“We know how difficult this night was for everyone. That is why we will continue doing our job: publishing new books, investing in the development of Ukrainian publishing, and supporting the economy. The best way to support us right now is simple: buy our books. Every order is a real contribution toward restoring our print runs and ensuring that Ukrainian books continue to be published despite everything,” the statement said.
