The Ukrainian judo federation won gold on Sunday in the Salle Gaston-Médecin. Their victory came in the final against the team from Nice (5-2). At the end of the competition, the partnership between the Monegasque and French federations was renewed.

The Monegasque team won the gold medal in 2022 and the bronze medal last year on the Monegasque tatamis. The Ukrainian federation faced Judo Nice Métropole in a final that had the air of déjà vu about it. The two teams had already met earlier in the day during the group phase.

Although Les Aiglons came out on top (4-3) in the first duel, Vitalii Dubrova’s men took their revenge, led by Dilshot Khalmatov, runner-up at the 2023 European Championships. Spain, beaten by Les Niçois in the semi-final, took third place on the podium.

Three-time world champion in the front row

On Sunday, at the end of the competition, a partnership was renewed between the Monegasque and French federations. Gévrise Emane, a three-time world gold medallist, bronze medallist at the London Olympics and five-time European champion, was in attendance.

She received a standing ovation from the Monegasque public, before sealing the memorandum of understanding between the French judo federation, of which she is vice-president in charge of international relations, and her counterpart in the Principality, represented by its president Sophie Vincent.
