The “Know Your Ukraine” project invites educators to a webinar on spring folk games and their use in schools, which will take place on March 25. This was announced in a comment to “Interfax-Ukraine” by Gnat Korobko – patron and co-author of project.
“On March 25, an online webinar titled ‘Spring Folk Games in Ukrainian Schools’ will take place, dedicated to our spring traditions and their practical application in working with children. We invite educators, club leaders, teachers, youth center staff, and anyone who works with children and teenagers to participate. The organizer is the educational project ‘Know Your Ukraine,’ which aims to promote traditional culture among children and youth,” – said Gnat Korobko.

He noted that during the webinar participants will learn about the origins of Ukrainian spring games, with special attention given to their implementation in modern education—during recess, physical education classes, clubs, and so on.
“During the webinar, participants will learn about the origins of spring games, their role in community life, and how, through a combination of singing, movement, and play, children naturally learn to interact, cooperate, and spend time together. Special attention will be given to the practical implementation of traditional games in educational settings—during school breaks, in physical education classes, and as part of school events, clubs, and children’s camps. In the practical part of the webinar, participants will analyze several traditional springtime games and receive ready-to-use materials for their work,” – noted Gnat Korobko.
The webinar speakers are well-known Ukrainian folklorists. That is Viktor Kovalchuk — an ethnographer, researcher, and collector of Polesia folklore, director of the Ethnocultural Center at the Rivne City Palace of Children and Youth, and one of the leading researchers of Polesia’s intangible cultural heritage. He is the author of numerous scientific and methodological works, including books on children’s games, folk music, lullabies, carols, and New Year’s songs of the Rivne Polesia region, among which are “The Sparrow Is Hopping. Children’s Games of Rivne Polesia.” Kovalchuk is also the initiator and director of several folklore festivals, and his many years of work have been recognized with state and professional awards.
Another speaker Lyudmila Aliyeva — a member of the “Goryna” folk ensemble (Rivne) and a lecturer in the Department of Musicology, Folklore, and Music Education at the Faculty of Musical Arts of Rivne State University of Humanities. She will share her expertise during the webinar.
The seminar will begin on March 25 at 6:00 PM and will last approximately 1.5 hours. Participation in the webinar is free, but advance registration is required via the link https://forms.gle/szCLEDry1RFM2RmT6
