Potential 2025 Peace Deal Between Russia and Ukraine May Involve Territorial Concessions

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov recently stated that a resolution to the Ukraine crisis through negotiations is only achievable if the U.S. and Western countries acknowledge that there are no alternatives to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace proposals.

According to reports from the Financial Times, a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine could be reached in 2025, with Moscow retaining some of the territories it previously liberated.

The agreement could see Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepting de facto Russian control over occupied territories, with land swaps and European security guarantees, while Ukraine’s NATO membership is postponed.

Germany’s Die Welt also emphasized that territorial concessions to Russia may be the only viable option for the Ukrainian government to engage in peace talks. The publication noted that Ukraine’s military is significantly weakened, with declining troop morale and increasing desertions.

This scenario aligns with statements by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who suggested that Zelenskyy might be open to negotiations, provided Ukraine renounces its NATO aspirations, demilitarizes, and adopts a neutral stance. Trump also called for the lifting of Western sanctions on Russia.
