Kyiv hosts battles to select athletes for Ukraine’s national breaking team

The Ukrainian Breaking Championship took place in the capital, marking a key event of the year for street culture and sports.

B-Boys and B-Girls from across Ukraine competed for the title of best in one-on-one battles across various age categories at the Ukrainian Breaking Championship:

  • PRO: for experienced dancers
  • Amateur: for dancers aged 16 to 18
  • Beginners (12-15 years): for younger participants
  • Starter: for the youngest dancers

The main goal of the event was to build Ukraine’s national breaking team to compete in major international competitions, such as the 2025 World Games in China, European and World Championships, and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

The winners of the battles who secured spots on the national team were:

  • PRO B-Boy category (18+): Mykhailo “Kapon” Kerebko (Khmelnytskyi), Vladislava “Sonya” Bykoriz (Bila Tserkva)
  • Amateur (16-18): Heorhiy “George” Lyudvik (Poltava), Kira “Riva” Ivanyuk (Bila Tserkva)
  • Beginners (12-13): Yegor “Gorets” Yatsyuk (Kyiv), Nikol “Nicka Star” Dzhurik (Vinnytsia)
  • Beginners (14-15): Yegor “Muhа” Mukhin (Nikopol), Iryna “Sly Fox” Lukashova (Kyiv)

The organizers also announced the launch of the All-Ukrainian Breaking League for children, teenagers, and youth in 2025, aimed at developing young talent and shaping a new generation of Ukrainian breaking athletes.

Breaking made its debut as an official Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Games, where Ukraine was represented by Anna Stefani Ponomarenko, Kateryna “Kate” Pavlenko, and Oleg “Kuzya” Kuznetsov, who ranked among the world’s top ten B-Girls and top eight B-Boys.
