The tenth FIFA Futsal World Cup is running in Uzbekistan until 6 October.
Ukraine are into the quarter-finals (where they face Spain or Venezuela on Sunday) after a 3-1 win against the Netherlands, who were in their first major tournament knockout game since UEFA Futsal EURO 1999. The round of 16 runs until Friday.
For the third time in the four editions since the expansion to 24 teams, all seven European contenders advanced from the group stage, which ended on Sunday. Those seven include world and European champions, Portugal, now up against Kazakhstan, who they beat on penalties in the 2021 World Cup semis. Other teams through include France, who went out in the group stage in their only previous major tournament.
